Duplicate Tab Guard Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 12, 2026

What Duplicate Tab Guard accesses

Duplicate Tab Guard accesses the URLs, titles, favicons, and basic state of tabs currently open in Chrome. This access is required to identify duplicate tabs and help you switch to an existing tab.

Local-only processing

Tab information is processed locally on your device. Duplicate Tab Guard does not send tab information, browsing history, page content, passwords, cookies, or account information to the developer or any third party.

What is stored

The extension stores local preferences such as your consent version, whether detection is enabled, whether the badge is enabled, whether incognito tabs are included, your Tab Budget, and your duplicate rules. When you explicitly close tabs through Quick clean up, Close group, or the individual close button, it temporarily stores those closed tabs' URLs, titles, and favicons in Chrome session storage so you can reopen them. This session list is capped, is not synced, is not sent anywhere, and is cleared when the Chrome session ends or when each tab is reopened.

If you explicitly choose Save current in Workspace Snapshot, the extension persistently stores the selected non-incognito tab URLs, titles, favicons, pinned state, window order, and optional Chrome tab-group metadata in chrome.storage.local. Workspace snapshots are never created automatically, are not synced, are not sent to a server, and can be deleted individually from Options. Incognito tabs are excluded from workspaces.

Duplicate notifications

When three or more tabs match under your selected duplicate rule, Chrome may show a local notification with the website name and the number of tabs. Tab Budget may also show a local notification when a configured limit is crossed. These notifications are generated on your device and are not sent to us or stored by the extension.

Limited Use disclosure

Duplicate Tab Guard uses tab metadata only to provide its user-facing purposes: identifying duplicate tabs, organizing open tabs, warning about tab budgets, saving and restoring workspaces at your request, closing tabs at your request, and reopening tabs you just closed through the extension. The extension reads metadata only; it does not read page content. This data is not sold, used for advertising or profiling, transferred to third parties, or made available for human review.

Changes

If our data practices change, the extension will show an updated disclosure before the changed processing begins.
